Benefits of Strength Training
In this blog we will discuss the benefits of strength training over a 3 part series, as this is a key ingredient in the “magic pill” everyone is looking for to do with their health and well being.
We all know one thing about strength training…. you get stronger! But what about the loads of other benefits that many people aren’t aware of……
As we get older, we can lose 1kg of muscle every 5 years, now this may not seem like a lot but it is for many reasons. This muscle loss can lead to slower metabolism which will in turn lead to fat gain, loss of balance which can lead to more falls and injuries, less joint stability, less independence, less self confidence. This is just the tip of the ice berg of the importance of strength training.
Strength training increases bone mass and strength as well as strengthening your connective tissues around muscles and bones (ligaments and tendons) this helps reduce the chance of developing bone diseases such as Osteoporosis
Strength training helps with body mechanics – co-ordination, balance and posture
Strength training release endorphins which makes you feel great and boosts energy levels
Strength training also burns more calories especially after your workout has finished which will also help with your fat loss
