Top 10 Traits of a Personal Trainer
Following on from our previous 2 of the top 10 traits of a personal trainer, here are the next 2 which are every bit as important as the first two!
3. Drive – To be a successful personal trainer, one of the most important things that you need is drive. You have to have the drive to get up early in the mornings and be the most exuberant thing that your clients see. You have to have enormous drive to want to train and look after as many people as you possibly can and to keep them motivated as well as yourself. This isn’t always easy to do. You also need the drive to learn more about business and the way customers like to buy. You always have to look to improve and this means doing a strength and weaknesses honesty session with yourself. You have to learn how to book people in and keep them as a client.
4. Motivator – I believe that we are more personal fitness motivators than personal trainers. We have done a lot of research on why people need a personal trainer and the number one reason is that they lack motivation. People want what they lack and in fitness, they don’t always work that out. They might think “I will go and buy a treadmill” When in fact, they don’t want a treadmill, they want someone to motivate them, because how often does the treadmill end up not being used and being a waste of time taking up space in the bedroom.
Being a motivator means that you have to tap into the psychology of what a client wants and needs the most and why. This will then enable you to write out the exact programme in the exact time frame with a deadline that creates a sense of urgency. Motivation is different for everybody. And the reasons for clients succeeding are almost always different for every single client.
