What it means to have a fantastic Personal Trainer.
A fantastic Personal Trainer is far more than an exercise instructor. The client has to trust the trainer, therefore the Personal Trainer must know how to build rapport. Without this step the client will not get their best results. The client also has to like the trainer, so the PT has to make it all about the client. The client should be treated as if they are the most important person in the world and the trainer / PT should make the “Chat” all about the client.
Finding out about their interests and using the 80/20 rule is imperative. That is 80% listening and 20% asking questions. Let the client talk, but use “active listening”. This can be done by para-phrasing their comments back to them or askign them another question off what they have just said.
Goal setting is also really important. A client needs to know what they are trying to achieve and their trainer needs to guide them there. Each achievement should be rewarded and recognised. A big achievement should be acknowledged with a certificate or a trophy.
Personal Trainers need to remember that most people dont like exercise, so in a way they need to take the clients mind off it but at the same time make them work hard. I do this by allowing the clients to have fun, almost child like. This way they relax and when the body and mind are more relaxed, we are able to achieve more things.
Being a motivation is also hugely important as this is what most people lack in fitness. It is the number one reason why most people hire a trainer.
Motivation is the key to success. A trainer must find the reason why the client wants to achieve their goals. The trainer must also be aware that the clients goals can change and keep ahead of the game.
A fantastic Personal Trainer should also recognise that training for most people is boring. An awesome trainer will provide fun and entertainment for the client parallel to the training. This will make the whole experience more enjoyable for the client.
If you believe you can be an awesome Personal Trainer, maybe our Cert III & IV in Fitness course might be right for you.
